POST-TREATMENT REOXYGENATION FOR DISCHARGE COMPLIANCE
For power generation facilities that must increase dissolved oxygen levels in treated effluent prior to discharge, Mazzei in-line reoxygenation systems oxygenate the water directly in the main pipeline eliminating the need for a dedicated tank or basin. This approach minimizes space requirements and capital costs while reliably satisfying regulatory DO standards at the point of discharge.
CASE STUDY: COOLING TOWER EFFLUENT REOXYGENATION
A Mazzei Pipeline Flash Reactor™ (PFR) system is successfully deployed at a natural gas-fired power plant to reoxygenate cooling tower blowdown prior to environmental discharge or use in irrigation. At a Texas power generation facility, where discharge regulations required a minimum of 5 mg/L dissolved oxygen, the Mazzei PFR system consistently delivered 10–11 mg/L—more than double the regulatory requirement. The system was selected for its small footprint, energy efficiency, and ability to integrate into existing infrastructure without disrupting plant operations.
HYDROELECTRIC DISSOLVED OXYGEN ENHANCEMENT
Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) licenses often require hydroelectric facilities to maintain minimum dissolved oxygen (DO) levels in their discharges. The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) has evaluated a range of technologies for this purpose. Sidestream injection technology, such as Mazzei’s Pipeline Flash Reactor or Basin Nozzle Manifold, offers distinct advantages over other conventional approaches: proven performance in municipal and industrial markets, a small footprint, energy-efficient operation, no requirement to break pressure, good turndown capability, and the flexibility to adapt to changing water conditions.
WASTEWATER AERATION & EQUALIZATION
Mazzei venturi injectors and nozzle systems can be applied in power plant wastewater equalization and treatment processes to improve oxygen transfer efficiency, prevent anaerobic conditions, and reduce maintenance compared to conventional diffusers, surface aerators, and spargers. These systems operate with no moving parts and deliver fine, consistent gas dispersion for biological treatment support.
