Mazzei Ozone Contacting Systems Solve Water Quality Issues

Water quality issues challenge most municipal water agencies. The issues range from disinfection to purification to aesthetics. Ozone (O3) gas is a powerful oxidizer and strong disinfectant. For more than 30 years, the bottled water industry has been using ozone to effectively treat its water. Treating drinking water with ozone creates a product that tastes good and is aesthetically pleasing―it is safe, good tasting and smelling water with fewer chemicals.

Today, ozone is increasingly being used in treatment plants for tap water, too.

Mazzei, an expert in mixing and contacting technologies, uses computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling to make certain each design is efficient and effective.  The first step in the process is sidestream injection or the complete GDT™ system, often followed by a Pipeline Flash Reactor™(PFR), Pipeline Flash Reactor Plus (PFR+), or a nozzle manifold. The engineering team at Mazzei will assist you in determining the best design to meet your desired water treatment needs.

Ozone will be used to remove algal toxins at the Collins Park Water Treatment Plant in Toledo, Ohio, and Mazzei technology was chosen to be part of its ozone dissolution systems. Below is one of the Pre-basin Sidestream Injection/Pipeline Flash Reactor ozone systems designed for the facility. These systems will be followed by serpentine contactors.
