INDUSTRIAL WASTEWATER

Municipal Wastewater Solutions

For more than 30 years Mazzei® has been providing cost-effective, wastewater solutions for both the municipal and industrial markets. From odor control for tanks, basins and lagoons, to reducing high Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) levels and increasing dissolved oxygen in even the most complex system, Mazzei gets results. Let Mazzei find the solution that works best for you.

Activated Sludge Aeration

Municipal water facilities find themselves in need of an effective, efficient treatment for their wastewater. Ponds containing organic matter, nitrogen or other compounds are often high in BOD and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). Often both of these must be reduced to state-specified levels before wastewater is released into the environment. Traditional wastewater aeration techniques can only affect the surface layer resulting in ineffective BOD/COD reduction throughout the remainder of the water. The Mazzei AirJection® Wastewater Aeration system delivers dissolved oxygen directly to the pond bottom, regardless of depth, using less horsepower. Utilizing the water’s own natural pressure, the oxygen is aggressively and uniformly distributed throughout the pond, enabling aerobic bacteria to digest the organic matter.

Odor Control

Odors caused by septic conditions in equalization basins, lagoons, and ponds can be reduced or even eliminated by using Mazzei’s AirJection Wastewater Aeration technology – a more efficient method of aerating than other technologies. Mazzei’s wastewater aeration systems operate quietly, with very low operational costs, and virtually no maintenance since there are no moving parts. In addition, there is no limit on water depth and no temperature loss as with surface aerators. The Mazzei solution is an all-weather operation that is resistant to corrosion, erosion and abrasion.

Ozone for Disinfection

Ozone is becoming the primary oxidant of choice in many wastewater applications. The key to the use of ozone is the efficient transfer of ozone gas to solution and effective removal of untransferred and entrained gas. Mazzei’s GDT™ process accomplishes both, in a package that is compact and easy to install and maintain. The GDT process is the ideal treatment for sidestream, high-concentration ozone contacting at any flow rate.

Post-Treatment Aeration

To meet effluent regulations, municipal wastewater plants employ multiple treatment methods to increase dissolved oxygen prior to final discharge into receiving waters. Mazzei offers two solutions to increase dissolved oxygen in wastewater: the Mazzei AirJection Wastewater Aeration system and the Mazzei Pipeline Flash Reactor (PFR) for Post-Treatment. The Mazzei AirJection Wastewater Aeration process is ideal for introducing ambient air or concentrated oxygen into wastewater effluent basins or piping. Treated effluent is pumped from a wastewater effluent basin or directly from the wastewater effluent piping through Mazzei Venturi injector(s) which aspirates either ambient air or concentrated oxygen without the need for blowers and compressors. The resulting wastewater effluent and air/oxygen mixture is then discharged back into the wastewater effluent basin or piping through Mazzei Mass Transfer Multiplier (MTM) mixing nozzles which thoroughly mix the sidestream with the main wastewater effluent flow. Another method for post-treatment aeration is Mazzei’s PFR technology which provides rapid oxygen transfer within a compact footprint. Using the PFR system, a small sidestream is passed through a Mazzei Venturi injector to draw in ambient air. The aerated sidestream is then delivered to the PFR where it aggressively mixes with the main flow, uniformly transferring the oxygen in the effluent pipeline. This eliminates the need for additional tanks or basins required by other technologies. The PFR can also be utilized with oxygen feed gas for systems with high dissolved oxygen requirements.

Pure Oxygen Injection

For the treatment of municipal wastewater tanks or facilities with much smaller volume and footprint than air-fed sludge plants, turn to Mazzei. Using a pure oxygen injection system, wastewater is pumped through one or more high efficiency Mazzei Venturi injectors, forcing oxygen to aspirate into the wastewater. The resulting gas-water mixture is discharged back into the tank/facility through Mazzei MTM Mixing Nozzles for greater oxygen transfer. No blowers are required which reduces energy costs and noise. For high dissolved oxygen requirements, Mazzei’s PFR can also be utilized.

Retrofit Aeration

For wastewater facilities requiring increased dissolved oxygen concentrations, the Mazzei AirJection Wastewater Aeration system with a drop-in MTM nozzle manifold and surface Mazzei Venturi injector(s) can be the solution. The MTM nozzle manifold can be installed at any basin depth without having to drain the aeration basin or pond. Mazzei advantages: low maintenance, no fouling, no blowers (quiet), all equipment is land based, and the water temperature is maintained. The AirJection Wastewater Aeration system circulates water through the patented, high efficient Mazzei Venturi injector(s), delivering dissolved oxygen from the bottom up for complete aeration; and as basin depths increase, there is more oxygen transferred per horsepower than with the use of other aeration techniques.

Sewer Main Aeration

The addition of oxygen to sewer mains can prevent or reverse septic conditions, reduce or eliminate the odors caused by these conditions, and assist with corrosion prevention. The Mazzei AirJection Wastewater Aeration system takes a sidestream of effluent wastewater, pumps it through Mazzei Venturi injector(s) forcing ambient air or concentrated oxygen to aspirate into the wastewater, and then the resulting wastewater effluent and air/oxygen mixture is discharged back into the sewer main through Mazzei MTM Mixing Nozzles creating even greater oxygen transfer.

Aerobic Sludge Digestion

As with Activated Sludge Digestion, Mazzei’s AirJection Wastewater Aeration technology can make aerobic sludge digestion easier and more efficient. Ponds containing organic matter, nitrogen or other compounds are often high in BOD and COD. Regulations often require both of these to be reduced to state-specified levels. Traditional wastewater aeration techniques can only affect the surface layer resulting in ineffective BOD/COD reduction throughout the remainder of the water. The Mazzei AirJection Wastewater Aeration system utilizes proven water treatment concepts to deliver dissolved oxygen where it’s needed most – the bottom of the pond – no matter how deep.
